A family of regula falsi root-finding methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
A family of regula falsi methods for finding a root ξ of a nonlinear equation f(x)=0 in the interval [a,b] is studied in this paper. The Illinois, Pegasus, Anderson & Björk and more nine new proposed methods have been tested on a series of examples. The new methods, inspired on Pegasus procedure, are pedagogically important algorithms. The numerical results empirically show that some of new methods are very effective.

An improved Regula falsi method for finding simple roots of nonlinear equations
An improved regula falsi (IRF) method based on classic regula falsi (RF) method is proposed in this paper. The method is verified on a number of test examples and numerical results confirm that the proposed method is very effective with respect to the classic regula falsi method.
متن کاملLag Based Hermite Interpolation Method for Solving a Root of Nonlinear Equations
In this paper we propose a learning based iterative numerical method for computing a rootξ of a non-linear equation of the form f(x) = 0 in the interval [a,b]. Lag based method through Hermite interpolation modeled root discovery approach is developed and demonstrated in this paper. The new method has been tested for a series of functions considered by several researchers. The numerical experim...
متن کاملReal-time ray casting of algebraic B-spline surfaces
Piecewise algebraic B-spline surfaces (ABS surfaces) are capable of modeling globally smooth shapes of arbitrary topology. These can be potentially applied in geometric modeling, scientific visualization, computer animation and mathematical illustration. However, real-time ray casting the surface is still an obstacle for interactive applications, due to the large amount of numerical root findin...
متن کاملAn Arnoldi Method for Nonlinear Symmetric Eigenvalue Problems
where T (λ) ∈ R is a family of symmetric matrices depending on a parameter λ ∈ J , and J ⊂ R is an open interval which may be unbounded. As in the linear case T (λ) = λI −A a parameter λ is called an eigenvalue of T (·) if problem (1) has a nontrivial solution x 6= 0 which is called a corresponding eigenvector. We assume that the matrices T (λ) are large and sparse. For sparse linear eigenvalue...
متن کاملA new family of four-step fifteenth-order root-finding methods with high efficiency index
In this paper a new family of fifteenth-order methods with high efficiency index is presented. This family include four evaluations of the function and one evaluation of its first derivative per iteration. Therefore, this family of methods has the efficiency index which equals 1.71877. In order to show the applicability and validity of the class, some numerical examples are discussed.
